National Trout Festival

With temperatures already reaching into the 80's in Northern Michigan it is hard to believe it is only the middle of April. As much as I wish those temperatures would continue, I know Michigan weather better than that. With the Kalkaska National Trout Festival starting April 21st, Spring in certainly here. The festival is celebrating it's 74th year (but it began in 1933). Read the complete story on the missing 3 years at http://www.nationaltroutfestival.com/welcome.html

Spring Time and the Cherry Street Market

With Spring only a few days away, I am looking forward to visiting the Cherry Street Market located at 301 M-72 in Kalkaska, MI. With a complete selection of fruits, vegetables, meats, deli and baked goods, anyone who has been there can attest that this is a "must stop" for any trip in the area.

Detroit Tigers Spring Training

With spring training starting this week for the Detroit Tigers, once again for the fans it is a season of possibilities. The old Tiger Stadium was home for the Tigers for 87 years and was demolished in 2008. To me this will always be the home of the Tigers.

Grand Haven Lighthouse

The Grand Haven Lighthouse certainly experiences the fury of Lake Michigan weather extremes. This photo was captured in October of 2008 during a rather windy day. I found a location on the beach and was curious to why none of the other dozen or so photographers were not anywhere near me. I soon realized why I was the only one in that spot when a rather large wave rolled in and proceeded to soak me from the waste down. That about ended my photo shoot for the day, however the shots i was able to get have provided me with a first place contest with a professional finishing lab and a red ribbon or"above average" recognition at the PPWM annual print competition last month.

Tahquamenon Falls

The Upper Tahquamenon Falls, the second largest falls east of the Mississippi is located in the Upper Peninsula between Newberry and Paradise. Tahquamenon Falls State Park is visited by almost 500,000 people annually. The upper and lower falls encompass 45,000 acres. I would consider this as a must on any list for things to do in Michigan.

Petoskey Clock

The clock located on the waterfront in Petoskey can be seen by anyone driving north on M131. A marina, park and a softball diamond are located on the waterfront and is accessable by vehile, boat or on foot. A walkway actually goes under highway 131.
I was fortunate to live, work and play in Petoskey for several years and it remains one of my favorite places in the state.
